Squarespace For Musicians

Choose from a variety of templates specifically designed for musicians and bands.

A few important notes about templates:

• Templates are responsive — Which means they fit the size of any browser, so they are desktop, mobile, and tablet friendly.
• Templates have a recognizable look and feel — Bold typography, generous white space, and plenty of room to showcase album art, press photos, and video.
• Art and photos will elevate your template — Even simple cover art, session stills, or live photos will dramatically improve the look of a Squarespace music site.
• You can’t switch templates — Templates are starting points in Squarespace. If you decide to switch templates later, you’ll rebuild the layout on the new template.

• Audio: Upload tracks using the Audio block or embed links and widgets from Spotify, Apple Music, SoundCloud, or Bandcamp.
• Video: Host your music or event videos with Squarespace or add YouTube or Vimeo videos to show them on the website.
• Photos: Showcase press imagery, tour photos, or cover art through Squarespace’s image block (for individual photos) or galleries (for a group of photos).

Squarespace Overview & Using Its Editing System

Intuitively drag and drop blocks anywhere in a section with Squarespace’s Fluid Engine editing system. This structured approach gives enough customization while being intuitive and easy to use.

Squarespace also has Audio and Video sections to help quickly build your pages.

• Ecommerce: Squarespace has multiple powerful ecommerce features for musicians. You can sell digital downloads of your music, physical products or services, and memberships. You can also integrate with print-on-demand services like Printful to send custom merch directly to your fans without having to make or stock them. You can also accept tips or donations.
• Event Pages and Calendars: Promote upcoming shows by adding an events page to your website. You can also display those events in calendar format. However, I’d recommend Squarespace’s Bandsintown integration to display and sell tickets or access to your tour, festival, or live streams.
• Mailing List: Build and manage your fan mailing list with custom forms that sync with Squarespace’s own email marketing tool, as well as third-party services like Mailchimp, to send newsletters and updates to your audience.
• Social Media Integration: You can pull in your Instagram feed to show on your website, for example.
• Built-in SEO: Edit page titles, descriptions, and image alt text to make your site easy to find in search engines. You can also get an automatic website analysis with an SEO Scanner, then instantly swap in recommended changes.
• Blogging: Share news, stories, and behind-the-scenes content with your fans through an integrated blog.
• Analytics: See where visitors come from, which content and pages they engage with, and which merch converts.
• Scheduling: Let students book paid lessons or clients book studio time, with automated reminders, through Acuity Scheduling.
• Memberships: Offer fan-club exclusives like demos, behind-the-scenes, or presale access.
• Useful Additional Tools: Squarespace’s Unfold app is great for creating engaging social media posts. Its Bio Sites tool lets you create an on-brand, aesthetically pleasing link-in-bio page that you can, well, link to in your social media bio.

Squarespace offers four all-inclusive plans that range from $16 to $99 per month (when paid annually). There is no free plan, but they have a free trial—no credit card required. You can also use code SBR10 to get an extra 10% off.

Each plan includes hosting, templates, ecommerce, and free domain registration for the first year (when purchased annually). The more expensive plans also include advanced ecommerce and business features.

For most musician websites, the Basic plan ($16/month) is perfect if you don’t want to sell anything. However, if you want to sell, there will be a 2% transaction fee. Therefore, if you’re looking for proper e-commerce, the next plan, Core ($23/month), would be a solid choice, as it has no transaction fee.

Squarespace offers two other plans: Plus for $39/month and Advanced for $99/month, but you likely do not need them unless your site will be attracting a lot of business transactions.

**Step 1: Get Inspired
**Before building, browse other musicians’ websites to see what works. Take note of layouts, navigation styles, colors, and typography.

**Step 2: Choose a Template
**Pick a template that aligns with your goals or use Squarespace’s AI builder. All templates are customizable with the drag-and-drop editor.

Step 3: Set Up the Page Structure
**Create your core pages: **Home, Music, Tour, Merch, Video, About, EPK, Contact. Keep the navigation simple: remove filler pages, use clear titles, and limit the menu to around 5–7 items.

**Step 4: Build the Music Page
**Lead with your newest release. Use a clean card layout per record: cover art, a one-liner, embedded player, platform buttons, and lyrics if you want.

**Step 5: Add Tour Dates & Merch
**Use an events page for shows (date, city, venue, ticket link). Create a store for merchandise and digital downloads.

**Write a concise *About page about yourself, your band, your music style, etc., alongside your photo and contact info. Check that your site looks great on mobile, connect a custom domain, and hit publish.
