We covered individual musician websites some time back. The same web design and content principles that apply there are also relevant to music group/band websites.

The only difference is band websites focus on the whole group and the environment they create — which is clear from the photos of the group performing and the audience enjoying them used on the best band websites. [On the contrary, a musician’s website is mostly about them — their websites are more like personal websites, with all that “I” language and photo studio photos of the individual.]

Below is a collection of some of the most well-designed websites of famous and not-so-famous bands. I’ve mentioned what I like about the sites in the first couple of instances — you can analyze the rest yourself and get inspired!

Tip: Use ← and → arrow keys to browse.

Screenshot of DeVotchKa, from the band websites collection.

DeVotchKa is a Denver-based, multi-genre band that originated in 1997. They skillfully blend various musical styles, including indie rock, Americana, and Eastern European folk, resulting in a unique and captivating sound.

This website nails the most important part of a good band website: showcasing the band, the audience, and the vibe created when they meet. And they do it with a single homepage cover image!

On the web design front, the website has clear navigation to tour dates, music, merch, and a contact form. Also, the links to social media handles are front and center.

The music is showcased really well:

Blocks of albums and songs. The songs can be played right on the website, or visitors can download the music from iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, Tidal, Apple Music, or Google Play.

Deep Purple is a pioneering British rock band formed in 1968, known for its influential role in the development of heavy metal and progressive rock music. With iconic hits like “Smoke on the Water” and “Highway Star,” their extensive discography and powerful live performances have earned them a devoted global fan base.

The website is not the most visually appealing, but it’s very functional: It focuses on selling tix and merchandise, sharing news about the band, and sharing photos and videos of the band and their performances.

Screenshot of Coldplay, from the band websites collection.

Coldplay is perhaps the most popular band of current times. You know them. You’ve heard them. Many of the band’s songs have garnered over a billion streams.

The band doesn’t need to showcase the faces of the band members or the vibe they create. Likely, therefore, the website focuses on the functional/call-to-action side of things.

Every element of the homepage is clickable — the central GIF takes you to their latest album; the block below takes you to the same page; the top-right block gets you to the tour tickets page, and the ones below show the press coverage. Plus, of course, there are navigation links to other important pages.

Overall, it’s a really well-designed, custom-made website made by Rabbithole, a high-end brand identity and web studio based in Leeds and Glasgow, UK.
